Ok background if you don't know about stocks and especially bonds but hardly a manual for investing. More of one guys take on the dangers of bond investing. No actionable plans here. I didn't like it too much. If you can buy it with a major discount you can check it out. It does have some good background information but definitely not any "approach to i\profiting from bonds, stocks and money markets" like the title says.
I really enjoyed this book. It was well structured and written, and did a great job of presenting complex topics in an easy to understand format.The book begins with a definition of income investing, and describes the components that should go into an income producing portfolio. An important component, and one that is probably least understood by the general public, is fixed income (bonds). Brady breaks down the components of fixed income in plain English, explaining the risks and pitfalls associated with investing in this asset class. This, however, is not a dry textbook. The definitions and explanations are interspersed with current and recent market events (written in 2012) so that the reader is given real life examples of the risks and rewards that are being explained.The book does not give "stock tips" in the equity section. Rather, like the fixed income section, Brady explains some of the benefits and risks associated with the asset class, and suggests research the investor should do to select the appropriate securities for their portfolio.After finishing the book feel like I have a greater understanding of income investing, and a better appreciation for the risks associated with the different asset classes. The books subtitle, "An Intelligent Approach to Profiting from Bonds, Stocks, and Money Markets", is a great description of book. It's an extremely good overview of investing that would be helpful to both the general individual investor as well as investment professionals.
The book contained some good basic information about income investing but I found the author to be somewhat rambling in his writing style...maybe he did not draft an outline before writing the book. I would not recommend the book to a friend.
Great primer for anyone interested in income investing (e.g. bonds and dividend equity). Written in such a manner that a novice or professional investor should equally be able to appreciate and take something away from the material.Finance and investing books often get bogged down with excessive details, but this is actually a quick read. I learned quite a bit and I've recommended it to several friends.
Good, solid information for income investing. The section on banks was most illuminating and the view of bonds as on option is refreshing.
Not a good book. Published by McGraw Hill so it is written like a terrible Finance 102 book. I've read a lot of finance and investing. This is a VERY basic introduction. If you understand what a stock, bond or treasury is, or have the Internet and look it up yourself, save the money. No good case studies, just Blah.
No "magic" here, but this is a very readable book focusing on bond basics. The book points out both the advantages and the disadvantages.
it was very basic reading and did not offer too much in the way of insight. I would not save this book or read it again.
