Another hit from one of my favorite authors. While this one is a little different from the prior books, you still get the same quality writing from the author as well as your fair share of highjinks and action. One thing I didn't like was the multiple view points and jumping around of characters. This made the book feel disjointed at times and somewhat difficult to get traction in. I have to honestly admit that this is the first work by the author that I did t read in one sitting. And it was not due to the length but more due to the pacing and multiple viewpoints. As in my review title, the book leaves on a huge cliffhanger that wouldn't be a proble, if CF:VI was right around the corner. But it is not, so the reader is left wondering what will happen next for at least 6 months to a year. Sort of game of thrones type ending.Overall another quality entry into the series but not the "best" one ever. Moves the story along and is enjoyable enough...
The core gang you’ve come to love over the course of the last four books has broken up. Katherine and her brother Tim are on their own. Tempers flare when the larger group thinks Tim is trying to screw them over after a member of his group accidently steals the dice they need to get home to the real world. What follows is a funny multi-narrative story where everyone is searching for Tim. People are forced to take sides and of course nothing goes as planned for anyone.Funny as heck. Very potty humor funny. Lots and lots of cursing. There are a lot of WTF moments. One of the few flaws in this series is the ever expanding list of characters. If you haven't read all the previous books, or if it’s just been awhile since you’ve read them, it's hard to jump into one of the stories and know who’s who. I’d recommend starting with book 1 in the series which is often free on Amazon or $0.99.Score: 7 out of 10
When we last saw the group in book 4, it had ended on one hell of a cliffhanger. This book basically picks up right after that, and keeps the adventures rolling. One thing that I do like about this book (as strange as it is to admit considering how badly it works out in gaming in general) is that it splits the party a bit and lets everyone get a bit of "screen time". It's not something I was expecting, but it turns out pretty cool.In fact, the only thing really missing from this book was a "Dave's Mom" joke. I'd knock a star off for that, but honestly the poor girl has had a hard enough life anyway...If you've read the previous books, this is going to continue the adventure. If you haven't read the previous books, I'd suggest giving em a shot first, otherwise you are going to be CRAZY lost when it comes to the story. While the short stories can kind of be read in any real order, the main books themselves are extremely plot dependent and with the twists and turns we get in the story... let's just say you are gonna be way confused and probably never look at an Olive Garden in the same way again.Go forth and read. Can't recommend this series highly enough.
I found this to be the weakest in the series. While all of the books have a heavy dose of juvenile humor and content, this one felt like it was crass just for the sake of it. I realize it is integral to the characters and have no issues there, but it is lacking variety and starting to feel dull, predictable and samey. Critical Failures V felt masturbatory on the part of the author, and while I am all for cliffhangers, I left this book in the series feeling as if nothing in these pages moved the story forward in any kind of meaningful way.
I hesitated to write this review for several reason. Overall, I thought the story line in this latest book was quite good. The story carries on from prior books, stands relatively on its own, and progresses the characters while staying true to their history. On the other hand, this is not a complete story as the other 4 books were in the series so far. The story line is left hanging, making this the first of the five where the reader is left waiting for major plat lines to resolve. If this had been apparent, I would have waited for the next novel to read both.
Robert Bevan has done it again! He has delivered another chapter (many) of the exploits of this intrepid (or possibly inept) group of friends trying to get back home! They seemed to have confused raising the bar with razing the bar…but should we expect any less from this group! This book takes a few new directions and is a great read and moves the story along at a great pace!Warning!!-- place your coffee or drink of choose down prior to starting, anything in front of your will appreciate it!!! Every page leads to more hilarity and laughs! And Bevan again leaves us shouting…"Dammit! Bring on the next one!!"
This book picks up right where we left off. Once again Robert Bevan has given us an awesome hilarious read. He can't write these fast enough for me. The humor can be rude and crude and a ton of crazy The number of messes these poor gamers get into is off the charts and the ways they try to handle them are outrageous!Bevan shows that he can raise the stakes, then drag them through the gutter, making the reader laugh like a loon the whole way. But it's not just dick and fart jokes; we also get treated to character development and hilarious hijinx
