My wife and I met at a Grateful Dead concert and we were married at one. All of this took place many years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, both from my perspective as a Dead Head and a current Tour Manager for a nationally touring band. I bought two copies to share amongst the band members of the band for whom I work.This is well-written, very comprehensive, and an insight into America's favorite band (like it or not, it's true). I learned a lot from this, both in terms of what I experienced way back when and what I am now confronting, trying to help an extraordinary group of musicians survive in today's economy.Read this. You will come away with a smile on your face.

Being born in the late 80's I knew little to nothing about the Grateful Dead. I read the book after seeing a recommendation from a CEO at a large healthcare institution. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I thought it was fascinating to see the business theories and how the Dead ran their business. I was able to gain respect for a band I knew very little about. It is a worthwhile read for anyone.

After slogging my way through the business world for far too long, accumulating both undergraduate and graduate business degrees along the way, I really, really have a visceral aversion to the mundane stuff that is typically pushed on us by the business publishing world. This, however, was worth my time and money. In fact the copy I read was from the library. But I was motivated to buy a copy for my daughter who runs a low fee ticketing utility (Tikly.co) for the benefit of independent artists. Bottom line: an insight into enlightened management combined with fun insights into the world of The Dead.

This might be my favorite book ever read.

This is a fantastic book. The Dead were agile before agile was cool.

My brother is a huge Dead Head. Got him this for Christmas, and he really loved it!

I saw this book while I was making my list for Santa and thought, 'Eh...' but Santa's pretty smart and brought it anyway and I'm so glad he did! This is an insightful book and the 'management' ideas that the Dead pioneered have become the model for some of the most successful businesses of today. Well worth the ticket price!

This was purchased as a gift for a relative who loves the 'Dead', I found this first at our local library, then decided it would make a great present for someone who likes the 'Dead'

I actually went through training for this service for my church. There were a dozen of us in the training group, the idea being that we would each lead a group of our own. Overwhelmingly we agreed (except for the minister herself) that Hill had never actually done this himself. This is a very idealistic idea of how such small groups should work, not how they do work. The groups that came from this training adapted the "rules", each group amending the set of rules to meet the needs of that group. Most were far more relaxed than Hill suggested, beginning with trust and confidence in each other. I truly question that this is a way to "save the world", but the groups are a nice way for people to get to know each other better.

This book is a great resource for best practices in covenant groups in a church. There are also many explanations of things that can go wrong and what to avoid. It is great for ministers and others managing and organizing and facilitating groups.

Well done. Very helpful not only in running a group but also addresses implementation and new membership issues.

If you have questions about why small groups have not worked in your church, or started well, but couldn't maintain their momentum, this is the book for you.Sometimes called "covenant groups," the small groups of this model have "covenant" as their cornerstone. Each group writes up a covenant for how they will conduct the group and how they will minister to each other, their church, and the larger community in which they live.By following the basic structure given in this book, your small group can become a little community within your church, rather than just a casual gathering of people who may or may not show up. A poorly written rhyming book that did nothing to excite my child about an upcoming trip to Madrid! The text is excruciating rhyme and does not flow easily..."There is one thing you will find,That is, that as to being a city,Madrid is one of a kind.But all cities are originals, and this you well know.And it is NOT becauseI told you so!"The foods mentioned are "thing sweet" apples and carrots, and hot dogs. Spanish kids may indeed eat hot dogs but tell us about a traditional Spanish meal they typically enjoy. The photographs are dull and lifeless, (this maybe due to the printing process) and most are not captioned. All in all, a huge disappointment.

As a fellow author, I hate to give sad reviews, but I just can not say much good about this book. I write travel guides for children and recommend books for parents to read with or to children before a trip.This one has nice photos, but the poetry is just dull and the information introduced is minimal.
