This was the first Damron Guide that I've bought in about 10 years. I was honestly a bit disappointed. The guide is about half the size of what it used to be. I realize that it must be very hard to keep up to date on the bars, but I travel and know this is out of date. Damron still includes "cruise areas" which are basically the city parks or a truck stop. Who actually hangs out in parks for hooking up anymore? Grindr pretty much eliminated the need to risk that. And they also list the adult book stores and porn outlets. It would be nice to see Damron modernize a bit.If you travel a lot this might be a nice quick reference, but you can find everything in here with a quick Google search. I do think it's fun to flip through cities and see what kind of bar scene they offer, but if you don't like gay bars then this will essentially be useless to you.

If you are looking for an in depth description and pictures of places this is the WRONG book, look for something else. You'd probably find more details and more fun information on a LGBT magazine or website. I wouldn't have spent the money if I had seen it in a bookstore. It would be better described as a POCKET quick reference than an actual TRAVEL GUIDE.

It's much thinner than years past. Not sure it's fully tracking everything like it used to. For years it was superior to Spartacus but it now seems Spartacus is the definitive guide.

Along with Spartacus, The Damron Guide has been a friendly and dependable guide for years. The recent edition, slimmer than past ones, remains invaluable and easy-to-use. They're to be commended what with diffficult economic circumstances from Japan to Greece. The new book makes the very best of the situation as they will continue to do well when the recession finally lifts. We pick up the Damron Guide each year whether we're travelling or not. Indeed, we "staycationed" this year as we live in the Palm Springs area already.

I recommend it to any student of the Hebrew Bible, whether Jewish or Christian. An eloquent and penetrating study of the prophetic worldview and theology. I greatly look forward to revisiting it through the years.

This is the perfect complement to serious Christian thought (e.g. Brueggeman) about the prophets and their validity for our generation; a profound Jewish perspective. Heschel is a vivid and engaging writer with a unique mind and amazing insight. Grounded in ancient tradition and Rabbinic thought, Heschel translates the message of the prophets for today and points us toward the job of working to create a better future. This belongs on the bookshelf of every serious student of Hebrew scriptures.

I teach a class on Justice at Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, NY Most commentaries on the Old Testament Prophets give a verse by verse interpretation. In this book, Abraham Heschel, a Jewish scholar and civil rights activist in the 1960s, looks at themes .He also looks at the difficult job that a prophet has: speaking to people who do not want to hear, and then pronouncing punishment which his friends and countrymen will need to endure. Through this analysis one looks at the problem of evil and how a loving God could punish people and allow tragedy. The book helps us to realize that it is not loving for God to be silent, as we often are, in the face of unending and widespread injustice. Injustice is just as important as our traditional sins. Herschel has passed away but the book has been reprinted and is something that any serious reader of the Bible should look at.

This book is incredibly enlightening, well researched, and still holds its own against modern scholarship. As a Christian, I know that Dr. Heschel was enlightened by the Spirit of God to understand and expound upon the role of the prophets and their dealings with the divine ethos. He shows how prophets are more than messengers, mouthpieces, and seers, but that they portray God's compassion and sympathy for all of mankind. An amazing book and worthy of study and contemplation.

Have us Vol 1 for years and was glad to find the Vol 2 that completes the study of Prophets. The Rabbi is excellent and has very helpful comments on understanding the writings from a Jewish view.

Get inside the minds of the prophets, like an intimate view into their lives. It helps to understand the whole gamut of the prophetic & dispel the misconceptions. Who better than the amazing Mr. Heschel? Read every one of his books. EVERY one.

I think I underlined the entire preface to this book! Heschel has so many insights into scripture, the men who wrote it and how they connected to God's heart. It's incredible! This book is definitely something everyone who is serious about understanding the Old Testament shoudl read.

This may very well be my favorite theological book ever. Heschel is not a Christian, but his insights into the prophets are incredible. This is two volumes in one and I think the first volume is probably a little better than the second volume, but both are excellent. Not an easy/light read, but worth every penny and every moment. I had to read this for a Theology class in College and I am very grateful for that as I would not likely have come across Heschel otherwise.

The Feynman lectures are one of the goto sources for an overview of physics. But they are aimed at a very talented, motivated audience. I never have been able to make it more than a couple pages in. Robert Piccioni gives us a much more accessible version. I majored in chemistry in college, but that was the end of my science involvement and it was 40 years ago. So I am fascinated by the material, but certainly no more than an amateur. I found Dr Piccioni's description of the science accessible. I come away with a better understanding of the world. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in how our world works, but doesn't necessarily intend to be a professional scientist. I also intend to continue on with the series.

I bought this book for my daughters to read to my grandkids. I talked to one today and heard that the 6 year old & 3 year old loved it and they laughed all the way through till the end. They have several of the "Old Woman" books, I was pretty sure they would love this one as much as the others and it didn't disappoint. While reading the other books I add a bit to keep them engaged, "I don't know why she swallowed that pie! Do you know why? Do you know why?" Asking them just gave us a chance to be extra silly with the other books, but in this case my daughter was able to skip over "perhaps she'll die" without skipping a beat. Of course for best results this book should be sung in a silly, sing song voice to the tune of the original "Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!" Make sure your littles are looking at the pictures and be ready for lots of giggles and laughter.

this book is so much fun! it is very clever...great book to give to a child around thanksgiving time as it talks about all the things that might wind up on your thanksgiving day table...and concludes with the big parade! the illustrations are chaotically fun and colorful and the rhyming is entertaining as the story unfolds. the only reason i'm not giving it five stars is...every page ends with..."Perhaps she'll die!"...which is of course is the way the poem goes. But, i would much preferred the author to say, for example, "She swallowed the cider to moisten the pie, the Thanksgiving pie that was really too dry...WE DON'T KNOW WHY"...instead of "perhaps she'll die".Other than that...lots of fun!

I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me. I own almost all of the "There Was an Old Lady" stories. There are books for each holiday and season. The students always become excited when they see one of these books in my hand to "read-sing" together!

Cute book but I had to edit it. Makes reference to death. I found that inappropriate when reading it in my class so I just omitted it.

I had to borrow this book this year and finally, I ordered it.. Thanksgiving is not the same w/o it (to me) and I could not find it at home or in the library. My 5 year old kids acted like they had never heard the story before (they have heard it since they were 3 years old) AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN,...We made a large card board cut up of her. We cut her a stomach and gave her our favorite types of food. We put them in sequence - first, next, finally, etc. We were Thankful to add her to our food discussion.ivr

This a great "Old Lady" version for Thanksgiving. For years I have read this book to the preschoolers that I taught in the classroom. Now that I am taking care of my preschool grandchildren I just had to purchase the book for myself to share with them!

I got tired of the "fly" version of this poem decades ago, and the "shell" version and others never really impressed me (I guess I'm tougher to please than I'd have thought...), UNTIL...she decided to swallow the entire Thanksgiving dinner! When I read it, I DON'T just "read" it, but we all SING it together, and the children I teach BEG for it, all autumn long!

Great Thanksgiving book. My preschool students love the rhythm of these "Old lady" books and this one doesn't disappoint. Just be aware that it does have the line "Perhaps she'll die" in it. We change it to "Perhaps she'll cry" when we read it aloud.. because dying is not appropriate for a comedic children's book.

My class loves when I read this. I usualy read it about 4 times a day in our fall months.

This review is for the audio version (posted originally on audible):This is a quick start guide on taxes for small businesses. There are specific examples and advice that help clarify some of the deductions that are available to small businesses. I don’t think it is substantial enough to do your own taxes off of, but that is why it is a quickstart guide. It presents a nice gentle lead into the deductions and rules. Always consult a tax professional or get them to do your taxes every few years after doing your own; or when vastly different rules are introduced. The value in the book is that it should allow you to have a less confusing conversation with a tax professional as you will at least have had a primer and should be able to understand the gist of the conversation. It also reminds people that if you do your own taxes you need to keep upto date on relevant tax rules as they are always changing. Additionally, I would recommend this to someone starting out with their own business, as it is better to know ahead of time what kind of records and receipts to keep and organize them accordingly, rather than waiting until tax time to tackle a mountain of receipts.The narration was good. Everything was clear and well paced.Full Disclosure: I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review”

My husband and I own a new small business and I handle the finances. I have a few years of bookkeeping experience, but this added to my tax knowledge. I read the book in less than 2 hours and will move next to and more detailed small business tax book. This was and good foundation.

This book makes some valid points and clarifies a few things, but I expected it to be way longer and more detailed for some reason. I may have misunderstood the description but its really just one long chapter that took me about 30 minutes to get through, and it left me with even more questions.

I miss Mr.Rogers. I find myself watching reruns of his series and I'm an adult now. I want to add some of his books because he had a lot to give people, and he gave a lot while he was alive. Ever since Mom died I have been searching for words of wisdom to help my shattered soul to heal. I turn to Mr. Rogers as one such person. Many of the passages hit me like lightening, they are so true and very helpful to me.

Mister Rogers is the best. He was always kind and caring. His words simplify life. This book should be kept by everyone's bedside to read a page or two each morning.

Lovely little book. Just so many wonderful thoughts, as well as a lovely introduction written by Mrs. Rogers. The pages here each stand alone, but, when taken together, it's like having that loving father you wish you had.

I bought this book on a whim. I like books with quotes and inspirational stories. Never did I think I would have such a calmness come over me as I read Mr. Roger's little book. One can almost hear his calm voice as you read the pages. I buy it now when I think a friend may need a little pick me up.Even after he has left this world Mr. Roger's continues give us his heart and bring peace to ours.

Mr. Rogers books reminds us to SLOW DOWN! He is down to earth and speaks clearly about life, etc. Each time you read the book you may notice something different. The nice think is it's a small quick read book. Many reminders about life! Sorry the Lord took him so soon.

Our church uses this collection of statements, quotes and short writings as a gift for our graduating seniors. It's perfect for that, but also for anyone who appreciates the big-hearted hopefulness of the late, great Fred Rogers. A nicely designed pocket book.

Mr. Fred Rogers.....enough said! He was a wonderful person who chose to teach children kindness and compassion through play, and kind words. I'm thankful he was apart of my and my daughter's childhood!
